I have been writing quite a bit lately about the challenges of being deaf. This video clip and a discussion on the forum has reminded me of the great blessing my husband is in my life. I agree with the young man in the video that knowing someone who is deaf “puts a whole new look at life”.
For many people, being deaf does not limit their intelligence and capabilities, and this world without sound is a fine place to be. Let those of us who can hear, close our ears and open our eyes a little more and see the world as our Deaf friends see it. It’s a beautiful world.

Wow. It does give one something to think about. I have never had much contact with anyone who is deaf. There are many people in my family who are “hard of hearing” because of ear damage by the noise of farm equiment. We don’t see our hearing loss as something good. We see it as a loss, something that is agravating.
I really appreciate all that you write here because it has opened my eyes quite a bit.
